NQ Arbuckle at Ottawa Folk Fest. Wait, where?

by

NQ Arbuckle is a band I discovered when I won a CD from a radio station several years ago. The CD was XOK and I had never heard of the band, but loved the CD at first listen. I noticed that they played the Black Sheep Inn on a fairly regular basis and eventually I was able to sync up to see them. They fit that venue like a glove. The small intimate setting is just perfect for them. NQ Arbuckle has always struck me as a bar band. I mean no disrespect, I love the band, I went out to Folk Fest early specifically to see them. It just was sort of weird seeing them play a festival. Neville Quinlan himself mentioned they were not used to playing festivals or even being asked.

They still drew a pretty good crowd of faithful. My favourite comment of the night was shouted as the band took the stage by a fan “Play the one about the smoking and the drinking”.

It was great seeing them and I’m sure I’ll see them again at the Black Sheep Inn soon. I’ve got that date in December pencilled in already.
