Young Empires bring The Gates to Ottawa at Ritual (photo essay)

by

On February 26th, Young Empires played Ritual Nightclub in support of their debut, full-length album The Gates. I was lucky enough to see them open for Dragonette in Montreal last November, but it was great to experience a longer set where they could really show their capabilities as a band. Lead singer Matt Vlahovich led by example as his on-stage energy was infectious and quickly had the crowd dancing along. Highlights of the set include their new single “Uncover Your Eyes” and my personal favourite “Against the Wall” from their debut EP Wake All My Youth. If you missed this great performance or just want to see Young Empires again (of course you do!), then pencil in Sunday, June 26th because they will be back in Ottawa for a free concert at the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival.

The evening was kicked off with a strong set by Michael Joseph Nelson who goes by the stage name Banners. He is touring in support of his self-titled debut EP.
