SXSW 2018 Memories – Mimicking Birds

by

Since 2015, we have asked independent artists to share their favorite memories from their time at SXSW. In just three years, this project has become one of our most popular features thanks to the growing interests of bands and singers from around the world. These memories are from Mimicking Birds.

The Portland-based were one of our Favorite Hidden Gems of 2017 because every one of their songs is like a rapturous moment that sends chills up your spine and takes your breath away. Their new album, ‘Layers Of Us’, which was released earlier this year via Glacial Pace, demonstrated the awe-inspiring nature of their music. Think The Helio Sequence colliding with The Civil Twilight, Mt. Joy, and Mt. Wolf. Nate Lacy (vocals/guitars/synth/keys), Adam Trachsel (bass/synth/keys), and Aaron Hanson (drums/percussion) are, in other words, like a wondrous super nova. While their star is exploding, their memories at SXSW are filled with watching other stars perform. Their photos are at the very end in the slideshow.

1. Seeing Willie Nelson and Family at The Luck Reunion.

2. Seeing Kurt Vile backed by Lukas Nelson.

3. Fader Fort hang with Andy Cohn.

4. Discovering Hop Along.

5. Playing with our friend Haley Heynderickx at Valhalla.
