Ben and I started Mundo Musique as an International music column, and lately I have mostly been writing about American acts, but that changes today. There’s a lot of amazing music coming out of Sweden, and a lot of incredible bands, like Miike Snow, and Dungen. Members of both bands, Pontus Winnberg of Miike Snow, Gustaf Estjes of Dungen, and Nils Törnqvist and Petter Winnberg of Little Majorette along with singer-songwriter Amanda Hollingby Matsson, who is also known as Idiot Wind created a Swedish supergroup, or supergruppen, named Amason.

Amason released an untitled five song EP in 2013. Being members of bands that span a few different genres, it’s really cool how they all blend together, and all the influence of each style really shows in each song on the album. It opens with the frantically paced “Älgen”, which then goes into the 70’s-pop-influenced “Margins”.  The next song, “Parachutes” is a total throwback tune, and it’s followed up with a gorgeous song “Went To War”, the EP closes with a folk-rock slow burner “Chicago” which brings the EP to a big ending.   A friend sent me a live performance of their upcoming single, Ålen” and that quickly became my favorite song from this supergroup. The song is in Swedish, and just incredibly beautiful.  The song is currently streaming in full exclusively on Spotify, which sadly means it is not available in Canada at the moment, but it will see a worldwide release on the 17th.
