Last weekend, I attended Slothrust’s record release show, and it was some of the most fun I’ve had at a show in quite a while, thanks in part to the awesome openers, including the Brooklyn based trio Low Fat Getting High. I feel like I’ve been on a bit of a grunge and punk kick lately, and Low Fat Getting High put on a great show with their grungy punk sound. If I had to compare Low Fat Getting High to someone, I’d compare them to some other stuff I’ve been listening to lately, Ty Segall, FIDLAR, and METZ.
Low Fat Getting High put out a four song EP in 2013 called Bad Yoga, which is short and awesome. Bad Yoga clocks in at around 10 minutes total, with two songs clocking in under 1:45. These songs are loud and just awesome, full-throttle punk rock all the way through. The opening track, “Better, Better, Worse” starts with some pounding drums and distorted bass, the pace picks up with the next song “Childhood Friends”. Bad Yoga picks up even more with “The Claw”, which is crazy and chaotic, just the way I like it. “My Hate” is the b-side on the 7” EP, and is the longest track, at about five minutes and descends into a progressively slowing whirlwind of badass distortion. If you’re in the mood for some loud punk rock, check out Bad Yoga and crank it up as loud as you can, and keep an ear out for Low Fat Getting High’s next EP, I have a feeling it’s gonna be huge. Check out their Bandcamp here and pick up Bad Yoga.
