The Ottawa area is slowing becoming a gold mine of great artists, mostly in the genres of indie rock, indie pop, folk, alt-country, and synth-pop. However, there is a growing hip hop and R&B scene. One of the emerging electronic, hip-hop artists in the area is NDMA, whose following is slowly growing as anticipation builds for the release of his first EP, Panache, which comes out on June 17 on L.A.’s Give N Go Sounds.
For NDMA – better known as Nilton De Menezes – the EP is in honour of his Angolan culture and a biography of his life experiences. “Having lived through civil war and poverty, music was my only escape, so it comes from the heart. I wanted this EP to make you happy, dance, and feel inspired.” On “BurnSlow”, which is the second single from the upcoming EP, NDMA creates a party atmosphere with groovy synth beats combined with hip-hop rhymes and rhythms.
The video is below. NDMA will play Blue Nuit at Fall Down Gallery in Ottawa on May 16. He’ll also be playing at Weldon Park in Toronto on May 31 and then a bigger homecoming date on June 26, performing at Babylon Nightclub. Catch him before this young man’s stardom explodes.
