Born in Sault Ste. Marie, but now an Ottawa resident, the young Kalle Mattson has become a critical darling over the last few years. A grad of Classical Music (guitar) from the University of Ottawa, Kalle’s pop sensibilities are seemingly innate. When he was 17, in high school, he wrote his first 10 songs as a project to test out his school’s new recording studio. That turned into his debut album, Whisper Bee, which was highly regarded and much loved at the time in critical circles.
With each subsequent album, Kalle has grown as an artist and songwriter. His latest, Someday The Moon Will Be Gold, has been generating much buzz, and his constant touring is getting this guy some serious road cred. Regarded by many as “the one to watch” from the Ottawa area, Kalle Mattson will play Bluesfest on Saturday, July 5 @ 2:00pm on the Claridge Homes Stage.
It’s a shame it’s an afternoon show, as his delicate moody pop is better suited for late nights. But go see him while you can. I’ll put money on this bet: Within 5 years, he’ll be a Bluesfest headliner.
