Mundo Musique: Arkells

Last week, Hamilton, ON band Arkells shared “Come To Light” off of their upcoming record High Noon, which will be released August 5. The band, which consists of Nick Dika, Mike DeAngelis, Tom Oxford, Max Kerman, and Anthony Carone, have been getting more and more popular since the release of Michigan Left, their 2011 LP. They are a versatile band, playing some great blue eyed soul, and it’s no surprise they won a Juno Award in 2012 for group of the year and CBC’s award for “Best Live Band”. They’ve also worked their way up the ladder touring with bands like Metric, Tokyo Police Club, The Black Crowes and The Tragically Hip.

“Come To Light” is a great, catchy song that reminds me of some of the great bands and songwriters of the past. It’s a classic sound, and a bit like some of the bands I mentioned they toured with. You can hear in “Come To Light” that High Noon is going to be something big. Arkells are on the verge of stardom, and if “Come To Light” is any indication they’ll be raking in even more awards in 2014.
