Wherever you turn your head, click on a website, scour SoundCloud, or search on Twitter, you’ll probably find some cool music playing in a part of the world that you probably never expected. In recent articles, we’ve featured a Macau-based, indie-rock band consisting of three Brazilians (Turtle Giant), a shoegaze-rock band from Peru (Puna), a garage-rock band from Tokyo (the moools), an electronic-pop outfit from Colombia (Moonetz), and an Austrian DJ/producer (Stefan Obermaier).
Next up is a groovy indie pop-rock band from Mexico City called Coast. Consisting of five gents, Coast produces English-language songs. Their sound is a cross between the dreamy, electronic landscapes of Toro y Moi and Astronauts, etc. and Ben Harper’s take on indie-folk-soul. “Dunes”, in particular, is a wonderful track and a standout by this young band.
Coast is slowly building their music catalog, so keep an eye out (or an ear open?). Coast is so new that they only share their first names – Charlie, Felipe, Manolo, Charles, and Adolf (kind of fitting with the World Cup happening right now).
