This week, I’m checking out a couple of bands from Saskatoon (check out the first here).
For our second pitstop in one of Central Canada’s most beautiful cities, check out The Moas. This is top-notch dream-pop or shoegaze (or whatever the kids are calling it these days) rock and roll. They have released a pretty killer grungy cassette (which is sold out!), but you can still pick up the songs via the interwebs. Made up of Chad Munson (Guitar, Vocals), Sonia Dickin (Guitar, Vocals), Scott “Beaumont” Gowen (Bass, and owner of Beaumont Music!), Jeff Pederson (Drums), and Sarah Rutley (Organ, Synth, Vocals), they pile on layers of guitars, synths and vocals to create a vast soundscape with a sweet sheen.
For fans of the 4AD label, these guys have drawn inspiration from My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, and a whole lot of other good stuff. Lots of distortion, very melodic vocals, and a powerful rhythm section, The Moas have a great sound. And you don’t have to hunt down the cassette, you can hear them on Bandcamp or buy the album online.
