It’s weird to think that we’ve been waiting for a new record from Bishop Allen for 5 years.  The New York based indie/pop band released one EP each month in 2006, as well as three LP’s, most recently 2009’s  Grrr…, so for a while there was no shortage of new Bishop Allen.  But after five years, Bishop Allen will release their newest record Lights Out on August 19th.

On Lights Out, Bishop Allen sounds like a seasoned band who’s released 12 EP’s and 3. It’s one catchy song after another, and one of the most fun listens of 2014. The opening two tracks are really cool sounding,  especially “Why I Had To Go”, I really love the synth hook.  “Crows”, the third track on Lights Out, a really laid back track, with a groove I really can’t help but dance to.  The record takes a bit of a rocking turn with “No Show” and “Give It Back”, before getting back into some electronic led pop with “Black Hole”, where Darbie Nowatka supplies dreamy lead vocals.  There are quite a few fun tracks on this record, “Skeleton Key” is great, and “Bread Crumbs” has this infectious beat that you can’t get out of your head.  “No Condition” is another rocker, which leads into the beautiful “Shadow”, another track with Darbie Nowatka taking lead, over acoustic guitar and pedal steel.
