David Wingo produces beautiful sweeping folk music under the moniker Ola Podrida. Like a lot of modern singer song writers, Ola Podrida was originally a bedroom project started in 2005 in Texas. Wingo’s music career up to this point had included him scoring a handful of movies for his friend David Gordon Green. After recording tracks that would later become Ola Podrida’s self titled debut album, Wingo started playing live and fleshed out the band by adding friends Robert Platon on guitar and Mathew Frank on drums.

The trio moved to Brooklyn and together continued to make inspired folk music reminiscent of Bon Iver, Elliot Smith, or early Phosphorescent. Wingo has also continued his soundtrack work and co-composed the score for the movie Prince Avalanche with Explosion in the Sky. For the third full length album Ghosts Go Blind, Wingo extended to a full band that recorded live in studio. The sound is now fuller with several rockers including “Speed of Light” and Not Ready to Stop” that balance the album with other stand out folk tracks like the title track Ghosts Go Blind”. The transition is similar to the one Jason Molina made on Songs: Ohia’s masterpeice Magnolia Electric Company.
