Adam Cohen is the son of a famous artist from Montreal. He likes to joke about that in his act. I will not ruin his joke in case you have not seen him live yet. It has been said that children of famous entertainers may have some doors opened for them, but they still have to have the talent to make it on their own. Adam Cohen certainly has the talent.

I will admit the first time I went to see Adam Cohen it was a bit of curiosity, but I had also heard good things about him. I saw him at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage and it was a perfect venue for him. It was intimate and it made it easy for his charisma to win over the entire room in short order.

His performance at Folk Fest was my third time seeing him and again, and I wasn’t sure what to expect as both the other times were smaller, more intimate settings. Adam joked about expecting there to be only 12 people there. The time slot wasn’t the best and the weather was cold and wet, yet he pulled in a very sizable crowd. Not only did he sound fantastic, as he always does, but he won over another crowd with his charismatic mix of singing and storytelling. If you have not seen Adam Cohen, you should. You’re also in luck because he returns to Ottawa on November 22nd at the Algonquin College Commons Theatre.
