You may recognize the name Johnny Quaid from somewhere, as he was the original guitarist for My Morning Jacket. In 2004, after an extensive tour supporting It Still Moves, Quaid left the band, citing pressures involved with being part of a band that tours as much as My Morning Jacket. After leaving the Jacket, Quaid moved to California, then Idaho, and started writing music for his own project, The Ravenna Colt. Quaid is releasing an album this year, and needs some support. Those who are fans of My Morning Jacket will dig what Quaid’s doing, his music is described as “dreamy Americana” on The Ravenna Colt’s website. Also, My Morning Jacket bassist Tom Blankenship and guitarist Carl Broemel make appearances as well as Jim James’ touring guitarist Kevin Ratterman and drummer Dave Givan. Check out their pledgemusic here, you can still get some really cool rewards, even though the coolest, which is Quaid building you a house, is sold out.
While you wait for your copy of the album to ship, enjoy this song from his first record, Slight Spell.
