I always find it really interesting to see how a song came to be. This week, Julia Holter was interviewed by Hrishikesh Hirway on his fantastic podcast Song Exploder where musicians talk about how one of their songs came into existence. On her episode, Holter talked about the composition of her song “Horns Surrounding Me” off of last year’s Loud City Song. In the podcast, Holter explains that before she penned the lyrics that ended up on Loud City Song, “Horns Surrounding Me” contained lyrics from an Aleksandr Pushkin poem. She did share the original demo with Hirway, and you can listen to that below, and be sure to check out Song Exploder for the full podcast, it’s a great listen.
