Usually the Greeks go over the top: lots of music, lots of food, lots of yelling; and with love, tango and military involved in the plot, it’s a little hard to gear down for the rather slow paced and subtle Christmas Tango. In fact this methodic movie may result in some slumbering moments. But if you manage to stay awake and embrace the pace, then there is plenty of reward.
Army life is the pits; it’s always cold, wet, the uniforms are drab, everyone is looking for distraction. Wives are neglected. Mothers are dying. Soldiers are dancing the Tango. Yes, love is in the air, and it is complicated.
Christmas Tango builds slowly to a nice crescendo where everything threatens to explode. And yes, it is well worth the wait.
