Jarvis Church and the Soul Station brought their soul inspired show to Orleans last week. You may remember Jarvis Church as the lead singer of The Philosopher Kings. The current project is a beautiful tribute to soul music, mostly inspired by the legendary Sam Cooke.

He played the Shenkman Arts Centre which is a beautiful little theatre in Orleans. The sound is always great and the sight lines are amazing due to the theatre style seating.

Jarvis Church has surrounded himself with an incredibly talented group of musicians for this project and he does an excellent job giving them their due credit on stage. His background vocalists even get to sing lead on songs themselves and that helps you appreciate how strong their voices are.

I actually caught his first performance in Ottawa on this tour last year at the NAC’s Fourth Stage but did not hesitate at an opportunity to see him again. Jarvis Church has a great knack for getting his audience to participate in the show with hand clapping, hand waving, singing, dancing etc… He closed down the show with much of the audience up on stage with him dancing, capping off a great night of soul entertainment.
