Last week, Anthonie Tonnon, who hails from Auckland, New Zealand, released “The Songs of Your Youth”. The song is the first single from his forthcoming album, Successor. The track is characteristic of the orchestral indie-pop that is coming out of New Zealand – classical arrangements and instruments (in this case the piano) with a rousing chorus. It’s a great track, especially during these cold, winter days.

Successor will be Tonnon’s debut solo album and his first major foray into the North America music scene. Previously, he released two albums (one LP, Up Here for Dancing, and one EP, Fragile Thing) with Tono and the Finance Company, which were catchy, indie-pop efforts. And unlike most artists who often write about their own experiences, Tonnon is known for writing second-person narratives about characters and events, and Successor is expected to retain this trademark of the Kiwi songwriter.

Successor will be released March 3 on Wild Kindness. “The Songs of Your Youth” is below. You can also check out Tonnon’s website/Bandcamp page (see below) and Soundcloud to hear his previous works.
