Los Angeles-based Happy Hollows epitomize today’s indie band. Met by chance (bass player Charles Mahoney met frontwoman Sarah Negahdari in a mall, where Sarah was reading tarot cards) and bonded by a common love for creating innovative and pulsating alt-rock, the two along with Matt Fry have organically grown a following. Their music captured the attention of many, leading them to open for acts like Japandroids and Deerhoof.
They have released two full-length albums in the past five years, and they’re now about to release a number of new singles. The first is the rousing “Astrid” that soars with the catchy hook and Negahdari’s edgy vocals.
The song presents a slightly grittier sound, but retains the anthemic qualities of their past efforts, like “Endless” and “Cloud Head”, which are below. This band is about to really take off. UK folks can catch them on a short tour. Dates are below (there is one California date).
“Astrid” can be heard with 21 other indie tracks on the May 1st Edition of the Weekend Showcase. We dare you to take a listen.
