We unabashedly are fans of Zachary Cale, the Louisiana-born singer-songwriter who now calls Brooklyn home. Besides taking time out to be one of the first interviews done for what was then called Mundo Musique, Cale released one of our favorite albums of 2013 with Blue Rider. Always an exception guitar player – one of the most underrated finger-plucking guitarists around – the album was a showcase of an artist finding his niche as a storyteller.
Cale now returns with his highly-anticipated new album, Duskland. The first single is “Sundowner”, which represents a change in approach. It’s a fuller, richer sound, but it retains the understated and unpretentious charm of Cale. Whereas Blue Rider was focused on Cale’s voice and his skills on the acoustic guitar and if this single is any indication, Duskland sees Cale “plug in”. We can’t wait to hear the entire album, which will be released on August 7 via No Quarters Records and can be pre-ordered here (scroll all the way to the bottom).
“Sundowner” is part of the May 29th Edition of the Weekend Showcase, a playlist of new songs from around the world. Take a listen!
