Rob NanceIn April, Rob Nance released Signal Fires, an outstanding compilation of folk and Americana songs that recall the classic sounds of the ’70s, such as Kris Kristoffersson, Jackson Browne, and John Denver and more contemporary artists such as Randy Travis and Lyle Lovett. His storytelling, as well, is vivid and true, much like the poignant lyricism of former Drive-By Truckers member Jason Isbell.

Nance, though, has flown under the radar since the album’s release. However, it’s an album that should be heard, and one that we should have listened to much earlier. With some terrific musicianship – from the tickling of the keys to the plucking of the acoustic guitar to some solid drum work – and excellent songwriting, Signal Fires probably will be one of the best of the albums that no one heard – well, until now. Just one listen of “Nightbird” or “The Breeze” should be enough to convince you.

The tracks can be heard on Rob Nance’s SoundCloud. Pick the album up at Bandcamp, iTunes, Amazon, and eMusic.

“Nightbirds” is also featured on the June 5th Edition of The Weekend Showcase, a weekly playlist of new music from around the world.
