The Matinee – July 16th Edition

by

Here’s the third edition of The Matinee. We hope you enjoy some new music for your listening pleasure.

Check out previous editions in case you missed it.

Animal Eyes – “Mushroom Hunter”

animaleyesAnimal Eyes is a psych/rock/pop outfit out of Portland by way of Alaska and they have a brand new track titled “Mushroom Hunter“. The awesomely smart guitar chords remind a bit of Minus the Bear along with obvious Grizzy Bear influences. If this new single is any indication of what’s to come, we are looking forward to their upcoming release Where We Go which should be out later this year.

The harmonies and chorus on this track keep you tuned in and wanting to hear more. The band is comprised of Tyler Langham, Sam Tenhoff, Figley – Lin-Chi, Haven Multz Matthews, and Colin McArthur.

Their newest track is a bit of a different sound compared to their past material (which has a bit of a harder rock vibe), but it’s really really good so we definitely are digging the new sound/direction. Be sure and keep an eye on this up and coming band.

B. Miles – “Shaking Hands”

bmilesBack in February we shared the instantly addictive track “Nine Matches” by B. Miles. The L.A. based singer-songwriter is back with a new track titled “Shaking Hands”. It’s sultry and pretty amazing. She is likened to Banks or even London Grammar.

She definitely has the potential to catch on like wildfire and be one of the next emerging female artists. Aside from her awesome vocals she also has a knack for songwriting.

Drawing her songwriting influences from Nick Cave and Tom Waits, this track is finely crafted speaking to that dysfunctional relationship many of us have experienced. We look forward to hearing more from B. Miles.

Inner Outlaws – “Boys In Blue”

Inner Outlaws1Back in April we shared a new track by Inner Outlaws and also a quick Q&A. The Brooklyn based band is releasing a brand new track every month this year instead of doing your typical album release. Their newest track “Boys In Blue” might be their best one yet. The laid back track with dual vocals was actually written based on an event that happened in June.

If you can take a guess, the boys in blue are referencing the police pretty much breaking up a rooftop party that was planned last month. You can get the visual story of what happened here.

If you dig Inner Outlaw’s psych rock sound, be sure and follow them on all their respective social media channels and be on the look out for a new release next month.

Man Made – “You never know how it feels”

manmadeMan Made is a trio out of Manchester UK and they are creating some great melodic guitar rock. After releasing their first single last year “TV Broke My Brain” they have quickly gained fans and notoriety for being a fairly new band.

The trio is comprised of Nile, Callum and Scott. Be sure and keep an eye on this emerging rock trio. “You Never Know How It Feels” is a great rock track with a 90s influences coming through. All of their releases so far are solid rock tracks that you can sink your teeth into. They have played some great festivals including Reading/Leeds, Isle of Wight and even embarked on their own 18 date UK tour.

Keep an eye on these lads as we are sure there will be more great rock tracks to come.

Resistance – “Hide In The Dark”

resistanceResistance is a 4 piece rock band from West Lancs in the UK and they are creating some pretty slick and talented guitar rock. “Hide In The Dark” is a great release with not only soaring harmonies and guitar riffs but talented vocals and songwriting as well.

The newest track reminds a bit of AM or Muse and that’s always good. The band is comprised of Joe Foulds (guitar, vocals, piano), Joe Wilson (bass), Ste Blackburn (synth, piano) and Harry Smith (drums, percussion).

The lads have been around since 2011 and released their first EP later in 2012. After a little hiatus Resistance is back to recording and performing again. Be sure and keep an eye on these guys as their newer material has really evolved their sound and we will be keeping an eye on future releases.

Swimm – “All The Time”

swimmAt first listen, the vocals sounded eerily similar to Steven McKellar of Civil Twilight which is a great thing. Swimm is actually an LA based psych-pop duo creating some addicting yet summery and ethereal vibes with their newest release.

All The Time” is an easy one to get into and is a track you just want to put on repeat. After releasing the track “Beverly Hells” earlier this year which is about LA celebrity culture they have garnered buzz and a following.

With “All The Time” they provide a catchy and pop infused track which is actually about the relationship between founding members Chris Hess and Adam Winn. The chorus is “I want it all the time” and “you worry all the time”. Those two lyrics encompass Chris and Adam perfectly. Chris wants more and Adam tends to worry. “All The Time” is off of their upcoming EP titled Beverly Hells.
