Amethysts (Suffolk, UK) – “Alone”
Amethysts are a new band from Suffolk comprised of Clarice and Simon. The bands recordings pull together layers of vocal harmonies which float on top of a sea of synths, driving drums and creative guitar lines.
This is the first release from Amethysts and it brings together the bands love of modern indie and electronica along with older classic rock to create a new and fresh sound which blends all of those elements together. They are currently playing around London and are working on more material so stay tuned.

Low (Duluth, Minnesota, USA) – “Lies” (Minnesota, USA)
Low is by no means an unknown band but this track is so good we need to share. The Duluth, MN based rockers have been producing “slowcore” since the 90s and they are back with a new single titled “Lies” that will be off their forthcoming album Ones and Sixes which will be released September 11 of this year on Sub Pop Records.
The band is comprised of Alan Sparhawk, Mimi Parker and Steve Garrington. “Lies” is a great showing of what’s to come with its laid back vibe and dual vocals, we look forward to the new release. You can preorder Ones and Sixes here.
Ravyn Lenae – “Moon Shoes” (Chicago, USA)
Not much is known about Ravyn Lenae except that she has a stellar and enthralling voice and that she just released her new EP Moon Shoes. The teenage singer-songwriter is not on Facebook, nor does she have a website, but she has a nice following already on soundcloud.
With a voice reminiscent of Erykah Badu, she is producing some super vibey and laid back tracks. “Moon Shoes” is the title track off of her new EP and it is definitely worth sharing. We look forward to hearing more tunes and learning a little more about Ms. Lenae.
Small Black (New York, USA) – “No One Wants It to Happen To You”
We are patiently awaiting the new album release of Small Black’s Best Blues, which will be out October 16th via Jagjaguwar. Their previous single “Boys Life” is already a solid showing, and “No One Wants It To Happen To You” is even better. Lead singer Josh Kolenik shared a bit about the song, “No One Wants It To Happen To You’ was meant as a mantra. Something and older, wiser friend told you once that you might cling to in order to get through a terrible situation. The phrase you keep folded up in your pocket, letting you know better will surely come.”
This laid-back, building track that has the perfect intersection of light acoustic guitar along with subtle electronic beats. It’s breathtakingly brilliant. Small Black is comprised of Ryan Heyner, Josh Hayden Kolenik, Juan Pieczanski and Jeff Curtin.
Unalaska (Vancouver & Toronto, Canada) – “Skeleton”
Unalaska is the new duo of Edo Van Breeman (frontman of Vancouver indie-rock band BRASSTRONAUT) and Zachary Gray. Their self-titled debut will be released October 16th via Light Organ Records. “Skeleton” is the EP’s lead single.
Combining Van Breemen’s background as a film score composer with Gray’s pop guitar riffs, the result stays true to its unreal origins and something that is cinematic yet mystical. It is unique but lush and beautiful, much alone the lines of Toro y Moi and Tycho. Be prepared to be amazed.
