Beau’s Oktoberfest is not strictly a music festival, it’s really an autumn festival celebrating great beer and food but their music line-up rivals many of the smaller festivals of the area so it has definitely earned it’s position in my list of music festivals. Plus I enjoy great beer and food too!
Last year was my first time going to this festival and I has such a great time I was planning to go even before they announced the line-up, but the line-up was stellar so that was a great bonus. This year they had another great collection of food venders to compliment Beau’s wonderful beer. I only got to try about a third of the vender’s but my favourite dish of the night was the Pulled Pork on barley from Murray Street. My favourite beer was Beau’s.
Unfortunately I was not able to get in quick enough to catch The Elwins on Friday so my first act was The Pack A.D. I’ve seen them at a couple festivals now and they’re always a good time. Tom Green did a stand-up set after them. It was fun to see the Rogers Cable star done good return for the “home town” crowd. The third musical act of the night was The Dears. I had not heard much from them lately and had never seen them live before. What a treat it was. They were absolutely fantastic! They had a lot of energy on stage and sounded great. I think the photos capture some of that energy but you can’t really do it justice without experiencing it for yourself. They do play the NAC in the coming year so you may want to check that out. The headliner was Yukon Blonde. As a regular festival goer I’ve of course seen them before, even just earlier this year but that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to see them again. They are always great on stage and they put on another great show to round off the first night of Beau’s Oktoberfest. If you want to see more of Yukon Blonde they are also playing the NAC this year with Hey Rosetta!.
