There was another strong line-up of music on Day 2. When I first saw The Beaches at Osheaga in 2014 they played early in the day on the small stage but I knew there was something special there and have been following them since. When I saw them again this summer at Bluesfest I was thrilled to see how their live show had blossomed. They are fantastic live and they showed it again at Oktoberfest.
Fucked Up was a big unknown to me since I didn’t really know much about them. The lead singer, Damian quickly jumped from the stage into the crowd in front of the stage igniting a chaotic mix of dancing and partying. To his credit he was able to continue to perform from the rowdy crowd while security watched on. It was great to see so much of the crowd really appreciating the performance as the band was clearly a different style than most of the others performing at the festival.
The final musical act of Beau’s Oktoberfest was Alvvays. I had already caught their act at Bluesfest and Osheaga this year but with a band as good as Alvvays one does not mind repeats. Once again they put on a great show and it was a great end to the evening.
This was only me second year at Beau’s Oktoberfest but it has clearly has become the event for me to finish off the outdoor festival season with. It’s a great mix of food, drink, music and just general merrymaking. Looking forward to next year!
