Because we receive quite a few remixes, we’ll change things up slightly and just post the remix itself and keep the words at a minimum. This week, we have five remixes for you to listen to and enjoy.

BROODS – “Bridges” (Space Above Remix)

We head to New Zealand for the first remix, where trio Space Above have taken Auckland super-indie group BROODS‘ Bridges to a whole new stratosphere. The single was already a haunting number, but it’s given an ethereal and spatial remake that peaks with a Massive Attack-esque trance. This is an absolutely stunning remix, and a heck of a way to be introduced to Space Above.

Sufjan Stevens – “Blue Bucket of Gold (Remix)”

One of the most critically acclaimed albums of the year is Sufjan StevensCarrie & Lowell, which is one of the most vulnerable, heartbreaking, and remarkable records not just this year but in some time. The album, though, was tender and fragile, one that could only be heard in certain mindsets. To breathe some new life, members of Stevens’ touring band have taken one of the album’s stars, “Blue Bucket of Gold”, and turned it into a stirring, breathtaking, and lush ambient track. You would expect to hear something like this from TYCHO – a song that just dazzles.

Moonbabies – “Wizards on the Beach” (The Land Below Remix)

When receiving this remix, I was speechless. Two great Swedish artists collaborating on a remix. Earlier this year, Moonbabies released their terrific new album, Wizards on the Beach, and they’ll be releasing a deluxe edition soon that will feature a number of remixes. One of the possible remixes is this great rendition by fellow Swedish, dream-pop artist The Land Below, a hidden gem who has quietly hypnotized listeners with his gorgeous sound. The song has an early Phantogram vibe – trippy almost trance-like yet dreamy and stunning.

Emily Vaughn – “Better Off” (Young Bombs Remix)

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/228241047″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”125″ iframe=”true” /]

For a sultry, pop-song remix, don’t look any further than Young Bombs‘ take on 20-year old Emily Vaughn‘s catchy “Better Off”. The original was already a dance-pop song, but the Vancouver-based electronic duo have added a few more touches to make it more emphatic and suitable for the club scene. This remix will have you up on your feet and swaying if not dancing.

Hippo Campus – “Suicide Saturday” (JR JR Reeeeeemix)

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/225970251″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”125″ iframe=”true” /]

You might be familiar with Hippo Campus, who were featured on The Matinee last week, while Michigan electronic duo JR JR have been making a name for themselves. Bring these two great acts together and you can one fabulous remix. It’s one of those rare renditions that keeps the indie-pop-rock feel of the song while adding a buzzing electronic vibe, thus appealing to fans of both genres. The other great element of the track is the build. The song starts off slowly and calmly before rising to its anthemic climax. It’s a brilliant display of mood, tempo, and drama.
