For this week’s selection of new music singles, we’re serving up some chill indie dream pop and electronica from Australia, Denmark, the UK and US. It’s been a week since the music world lost one of its brightest stars, and we’re still feeling a bit pensive. These artists deliver a balance between introspective chill and upbeat pop that will help get you through your Monday.

on dead waves

This breathtaking new single from British dream pop duo on Dead Waves (vocalist Polly Scattergood and James Chapman of the Mercury Prize-nominated act Maps) is utterly stunning. It’s moody and atmospheric, tinged with broad strokes of melancholy. Their warm harmonies are both haunting and comforting, so it is an understatement to say that we are looking forward to hearing the full album due March 4 on Mute Records.

lust for youth

Nordic synth/pop group Lust For Youth are back with a new single from Compassion, the upcoming third album they’ve released on Sacred Bones Records. “Stardom” has a chill, late-night easiness with ’80s-influenced synth and icy percussion. The group that was formerly the solo project of Swedish synth artist Hannes Norrvide is now a Denmark-based trio, and their sound is brighter than ever. Compassion is due out March 18 and is available for pre-order from iTunes.

high highs

Australian indie pop duo High Highs moved to New York City a few years ago, but they haven’t surrendered their sunny, laid-back sensibilities to the hectic pace of the Big Apple. The dreamlike brightness of this latest single radiates the warmth of summer and the expanse of deep blue seas. The song is a welcome distraction from the harshness of winter. It’s from their upcoming album, Cascades, due February 5 from Play It Again Sam Music and available for pre-order here.
