The Matinee January 22nd Edition

The Matinee January 22nd Edition has six awesome new singles to kick off your Friday and get you ready for the weekend. We have electronic soul, hard hitting indie rock, garage vibey rock, and indie pop-rock.

Billy Fox – “East Coast” (Sydney, Australia)

Billy Box- East Coast

Billy Fox is creating awesome soul infused electronic tracks, and “East Coast” is the perfect feel good track. Fox reminds a bit of Max Frost as they both have those sultry vocals and the production and beats to allow each track to shine.

“East Coast” is a chilled out ode to homesickness of the best kind and all the nostalgic twangs that come with yearning for a coastline, a city and its people. We look forward to hearing more from Billy Fox in 2016.

EAT – “Byker Drone” (Newcastle, UK)

EAT - Byker Drone

We don’t know a lot about the band EAT, except they have a debut track entitled “Byker Drone” and it definitely has us all wanting to hear more.

“Byker Drone” is a reverb filled track that sits between garage vibey rock and attention grabbing shoegaze.

We know the band EAT is from the UK and that we can’t wait to hear what other tracks will be included on their upcoming Byker Drone EP.

Great News – “Diamonds” (Bergen, Norway)

Great News - Diamonds

Great News have only been playing together for less than a year,  but you can’t tell by listening. The band has gotten great accolades over in Norway and has opened for the likes of Unknown Mortal Orchestra.  “Diamonds” has that laid back feel good indie pop/rock vibe going on and you can’t help but push play again after first listen.

Great News shares a bit about the track: “The mood we’re trying to get across with the song is kind of the same feeling of slipping on ice. You can’t fight it, you have to accept that you’re losing control. It’s also like watching the world through a diamond. You’ll see many sides of the same reality, and you’ll be seduced by the illusion.”

Great News are Even Kjelby, Lars Henrik Stoud Platou, and Ole Kristian Einarsen.

Lucifers Beard – “Black & Blue” (Shrewsbury, UK)

Lucifers Beard - Black & Blue

Lucifers Beard are set to release their three track EP, Y E T I in May and we are sharing the first track from the EP. The track is nostalgic and reminds of some of the great 90s bands akin to Soundgarden but they keep it fresh and progressive for today. “Black & Blue” is a punch to the face from the start and keeps your attention throughout.

The band has been playing together since 2013 but we are really excited to hear the upcoming EP as they had help from acclaimed producer and mixer Tristan Ivemy (The Holloways, Frank Turner, Kassassin Street).

Lucifers Beard are Chris Barnes, Peter Doors, and Joe Miller.
