Fate. Serendipity. Karma. Luck. Whatever you may call it, music is full of bands and duos who formed as a result of a chance encounter. It is during these occasions where some of the best music has been created because the instantchemistry often results in something unexpectedly remarkable. Something that is instant, organic, and sometimes even primal in its soul.
For Melanie deJesus, who at the time was managing an online magazine, and Clinton Van Arnam, who was living in a van after moving to Califrornia from New Mexico, a chance meeting at a monthly music night in LA would change their lives forever. They hit it off and formed Dream Stretcher, a band that some 15 months ago was our hidden gem.

The two have returned under a new moniker, Dstnce, to reflect the transformation of their sound, and we were extremely pleased and honored to be premiering their new EP, EP1.
The two songs, “Home” and “Here”, are an extension of the duo’s synth-pop as Dream Stretcher. But instead of being lush and dreamy, Dstnce’s music is stark and haunting. “Home” takes you to another dimension, as the music sounds distant and out of one’s reach. “Here”, meanwhile, draws you back in, as their darkwave is transformed into something chilling and breathtaking. Between the sensuality of the two tracks and deJesus’ soft voice (which has the same captivating quality of CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry), the couple’s second life as Dstnce will leave a lasting impression. EP1, however, is just the beginning of something truly memorable. It was a project born out chance, but now it is a destiny that Melanie and Clinton control. Where the future will take them will be something we will be watching very closely.
EPI officially comes out tomorrow. Check Dstnce’s social media for download details in the coming days.
