Bootblacks – “Southpole” (Brooklyn, USA)

bootblacks - "Southpole"

Bootblacks name is derived from novelist William Burroughs’ description of the dark underbelly of glitzy New York City. The track is familiar yet new and encapsulates some of the great bands that were able to mesh together post punk and new wave (Depeche Mode, Joy Division). “Southpole” is also reminiscent one of the UK’s big name bands White Lies, who is also able to bring excitement and urgency to a new era of post punk bands.

“Southpole” is the lead single from Bootlblacks’ forthcoming album, Veins, which drops March 11th on Manic Depression Records.

The Coathangers – “Make It Right” (Atlanta, USA)

The Coathangers - "Make It Right"

When The Coathangers started up in 2006, their aspirations were humble. “I think all bands in their early twenties start for fun,” says guitarist/vocalist Julia Kugel when talking about their early years of cheeky no-wave and irreverent garage rock. But Julia and her bandmates Meredith Franco (bass/vocals) and Stephanie Luke (drums/vocals) were serious about their craft, and that combination of modest outside expectations and absolute dedication to their music made for exhilarating live shows and contagious records.

Ten years later The Coathangers are still going strong. “Make It Right” is the perfect blend of punky attitude from an all female band that forces you to move and remember and celebrate awesome female legends like Pat Benatar.

“Make It Right” is from the band’s forthcoming, fifth album, Nosebleed Weekend!, which will be released on April 15th via Suicide Squeeze Records.

Hayden Calnin - "Cut Love"

Following two critically acclaimed EPs and drawing comparisons to Bon Iver, M83, Dawn Golden as well as Beach House, Hayden’s rapidly growing fan base have been asking for more releases, more tracks and more of Hayden worldwide.
We now have a new track by the Australian artist who is a master at creating beautiful and anthemic songs which immediately captivate and command your attention.

“Cut Love” is the title track from his upcoming album that will drop later this year. Mr Calnin shared a bit about the single with Consequence of Sound:

“Creating ‘Cut Love’… was very much about writing and recording what I felt was true to who I was as a musical artist,” says Calnin. “It’s a very honest piece that doesn’t necessarily adhere to classic convention in modern songwriting.”

The Rainband – “Storm” (Manchester, United Kingdom)

The Rainband - "Official Storm"

Manchester’s based band The Rainband began in 2011 by frontman Martin Finnigan and guitarist Phil Rainey.  The band became a four piece when drummer Steve Irlam and multi-instrumentalist Joe Wilson joined the ranks, recently growing into a five piece with new addition bassist Sam Wilson.

They have just released “Storm” and while the composition of the song is great, the lyrics are what really caught my attention. It’s refreshing to hear positive lyrics to remind us to “live and let live”. The song also contrasts the other side as “power in the hands of some is like a ticking bomb”. Both are true statements. The lyrics are thought provoking and a reminder of how we choose to live our lives really do make a difference in the world. With Valentine’s day coming up this weekend…let’s get out there and choose love.

“Storm” is the lead track from The Rainband’s debut album, Satellite Sunrise, which will be released on April 8th.

Shallou - "Heights"

We don’t know much about Shallou except that this song “Heights” is one that keeps getting put on repeat.
“Heights” is the perfect amount of chill wave and equal parts synth goodness that immediately puts you in a calming and hypnotic mood. This track is the perfect one to spin on any relaxing day or even one when you need to relax from a week full of stress.

Shallou, according to his Facebook page, is J Boston Emilio Quezada. We know the guys are doing. We do know they are collaborating with our friend RKCB soon, so I’m sure we will be hearing more from Shallou.

SLEEPLUST - "My Place"

SLEEPLUST is one of Los Angeles’s most exciting and sought after indie, electronic-pop outfits. The trio formed in Charlotte, North Carolina and consists of songstress/poet Meghan Tartamella and twin brothers Michael and Joseph Pepe. SLEEPLUST’s unique sound combines brooding electronics, wandering synths and heavy beats all brought together by Tartamella’s sultry yet focused melodies. “My Place” has just the right amount of hypnotic synth and beats which perfectly showcase Tartamella’s sweet yet sultry vocals. Her vocals remind a tad bit of Amelia Meath which ensures that you won’t forget the sound of SLEEPLUST after first listen.

“My Place” is their newest single release after their self titled debut EP was released last November. Look forward to hearing more from this emerging trio. SLEEPLUST are Michael Pepe, Meghan Tartamella, and Joseph Pepe.
