Operators perform at Ritual Nightclub (photo essay)

When a fellow member of The Revue speaks so highly of a band, you know that seeing them live is an opportunity not to be missed. This was the case for the recent Operators‘ (Dan Boeckner, Devojka and Sam Brown) performance, who stopped in Ottawa to play Ritual Nightclub on February 25th. The ensemble took to the stage immersing all in an unceasing synth, “oblige-you-to-move” groove, bolstered at times by Boeckner’s shimmering guitar, from the first song through the encore. They made such an impression, I picked up their 2014 release EP1 the next day and pre-ordered their album Blue Wave, which comes out April 1st.

Operators are currently on a late Winter/early Spring tour with stops in both Canada and the US, which you can find specific dates for HERE. Consider it highly recommended you see their performance live, particularly if you’ve never had a listen before, as in my humble opinion that’s the ideal introduction.

Try not to dance. I double dare you.

Opening the evening was Little Scream, the performing name of Laurel Sprengelmeyer of Montreal.  Her single “Love as a Weapon” was recently released on Merge Records.
