There are very few songwriters in the world where you feel like you could call them a friend. They are the ones who share every thought, every feeling, every experience with you. They draw you in with music that is intimate and stunning, where each note only further accentuates the emotions being expressed in the song. They may not know your name, but you know theirs. You may have never met, but you know each of their stories and every emotion they felt during that time. And should you ever met, you would greet him with a big hug, as if he was indeed an old friend.
Richard Walters is one of those rare artists. From his early solo work to his time with Liu Bei, Walters has been crafting songs that are breathtaking and lush, and each one entrenched with a memory. After nearly a year since releasing the stunning “July Bones”, Walters has returned with another spectacular number. “A.M” is a proclamation of love. It is Walters sharing not only his feelings for the love his life, but what she means to him and how inseparable the two are.
The song, however, is surprising in its delivery and production. On “A.M.”, Walters has stripped everything down and taken a lo-fi approach reminiscent of Elliott Smith. This new direction by Walters adds to the song’s intimacy and heightens the love and even urgency in the London-based artist’s voice, especially during the lines:
I can’t wait any longer, I can’t bear any more
I was drained by the morning, by the wolves at the door
But you’ll stir in a moment and my world will align
I know every piece of you
And I love every piece of you
“A.M.” is beautiful. It’s a song that will be heard for years at weddings, anniversaries, or just as a way to say three important words, “I love you.”
Hear “A.M.” below, which we are extremely pleased and privileged to premiere today. It is the lead single from Richard Walters’ forthcoming fourth solo album, which is expected in May. More details to follow in the coming weeks, and you can follow Walters on his various social media sites for the latest information.
