The day started with one of the remaining bands from my preview, Corrosion of Conformity. The veterans rockers gave us an excellent set of rock showing us why they have such staying power.
Although I had never even heard of the band Sodom, one had to be impressed with their enthusiasm. The band really gave the fans their all. Anthrax, A Day to Remember, Stick To Your Guns and Lamb of God all put on excellent sets delivering exactly what their fans would expect. I was impressed with each of them.
The next act to surprise was Ice Cube. In a festival filled with heavy metal and punk rock, his name stood out as unusual. One probably wonders how well a hip-hop act would be received from a rock audience like Amnesia Rockfest and let me assure you, very warmly! The crowd that gathered for Ice Cube was the biggest I had seen yet in the day and the crowd was enthusiastically singing along with him to their favourite songs. It was a true display of the power of music and how it can bring everyone together.
Limp Bizkit showed they had staying power but the biggest surprise for me of the entire festival was Bring Me The Horizon. Somehow this band had slipped under the radar for me, and I was not familiar with them until a few months ago when I began researching the bands for the festival. I had marked them as a band I definitely wanted to catch, but I was not prepared for what they delivered. The band not only sounded fantastic, but they made use of the dark to put on a spectacular light show and their stage presence and energy was top notch. It was simply a fantastic performance and my favourite of the festival.
The last band I highlighted in my preview was Rise Against. I have seen them a few times before so I was already expecting a great performance and they did deliver. They were a fantastic conclusion to a very solid Rockfest. I am looking forward to seeing what will be offered next year for the 12th edition of the festival.
