“Life seems to go on without effort when I am filled with music.” ~ George Eliot
One thing is certain: 2016 has been an annus horribilis for music fans. This time last year, we were awaiting the new album from David Bowie, unaware it would be his last. Nothing could have prepared music fans for the countless tears we would shed this year. Who could have imagined we would ring in 2016 listening to legends like Prince and Sharon Jones, only to memorialize them by year’s end?
Instead of mourning, we choose to celebrate their lives and their legacies. We raise a glass in honor of them all, from the Thin White Duke and Leonard Cohen to the four lads in Viola Beach; from Prince and Phife Dawg to Miss Sharon Jones, and so many more. The music they made touched our hearts. Their melodies – and the memories we have of them singing and performing – will remain with us always.
