The transition from pro baseball player to reality TV star to successful singer-songwriter may seem to encompass everything that anyone could ever want from life. By 2015, Brady Toops had achieved all this and more, yet there was something missing. He reveals:
I think I had slowly lost heart, and didn’t realize it. The youthful zeal of my 20s had faded into a mild cynicism by my early 30s.
Fortunately for us, inspiration came along. The result is Toops’ forthcoming album, Tried And True, to be released on March 11th and followed up by a headlining tour across the US Midwest and West Coast.
Meanwhile, Brady has released “Carolina” as a single from the album, accompanied by a behind-the scenes style video that we are pleased to premiere here.
“Carolina” was one of the first songs written for the new album, providing a catalyst for the rest of the album. Unmistakably Nashville in origin, the song is a mix of soul and alt-country. Brady’s vocals are strong yet vulnerably authentic, showcased through a stripped-bare intro. Rising into a storyline of soulmates found, Brady is supported by laid-back rock guitar, finely-placed percussion and and soaring harmonies. His muse, who’s the love of his life – Brady admits – “helped me believe again” has clearly left her mark. This is a song that celebrates the impact intimacy has on the soul.
And the band clearly enjoyed this recording, as you’ll see in this video. Or take a listen to the audio link below if you prefer.
