The JUNO Awards descended upon Ottawa this past weekend, and the city was a flurry of activity. For the live music lover, there was an abundance of events to attend. On Friday night alone, JUNOFest had eighteen shows to choose from spanning a wide variety of genres showcasing a plethora of Canadian talent. After some serious thought, I decided on the Outlaws & Gunslingers show, as there were several artists I already love and a few more I wanted to hear on the same bill. The show was presented by Six Shooter Records and Starfish Entertainment and featured some of the many talented artists in their lineups. It was held at Saint Brigid’s Centre for the Arts, a former Irish Catholic church build in 1890.

Local favourite Silver Creek had to learn 45 songs in preparation for this show, as they backed up most of the performers through the night and did an outstanding job doing so!

The lineup included: Ensign Broderick, Gabrielle Shonk, Jason Plumb (formerly of the Waltons), Kelly Prescott, Crystal Shawanda, William Prince, NQ Arbuckle, Lisa LeBlanc, Barney Bentall, Whitehorse, Jim Cuddy, Devin Cuddy, Joey Landreth and others!

Without a doubt, every single artist was great, but what I really noticed was the pure joy they had sharing the stage, both with their fellow artists as well as with their backing band (Silver Creek). The evening was a beautiful display of musical collaboration among some of the country’s finest performers.
