Since 2015, we have asked independent artists to share their favorite memories from their time at SXSW. In just a couple of years, this project has become one of our most popular features thanks to the growing interests of bands and singers from around the world. Forty-five artists participated in this year’s edition, including FiFi Rong.
FiFi Rong is a DIY electronic musician, vocalist, and producer from the UK, and an artist we profiled in our infancy. As such, we were excited to learn she was making an appearance at SXSW. As background, she’s trained in several classical instruments, but her heart is in the DIY dubstep, grime, and electronic scenes. She is prolific on her own and has been featured in many high-profile collaborations as well. Rong is, in two words, a talent.
1. My Fan Girl moment number one:
The Lemon Twigs live. Probably the best thing that will happen to this and the next generation. The brothers are basically genius x genius = genius ²
Yes I said it. You can quote me on that.
2. My Fan Girl moment number two:
Rag’n’Bone Man Live! I was lucky to catch his show at British Music Embassy and watched from close proximity. It was surreal. And he was bloody tall; I had to stand on my toe to put my face in the same frame as his when I had a picture taken with him.
3. M-Magazine Instagram take-over day
A guilt-free pass for me to shamelessly post selfies on social media:
I had PRS for Music’s M Magazine’s Instagram account for the day so I was being a good girl and worked very hard at it and posted everything from getting ready, to getting to the shows, including the one at British Music Embassy, which was my favorite showcase and I even took some photos of my beautiful audiences from the stage after my show. It was definitely my show of the year so far…
