SXSW 2017 Memories – Alex Napping

by

Since 2015, we have asked independent artists to share their favorite memories from their time at SXSW. In just a couple of years, this project has become one of our most popular features thanks to the growing interests of bands and singers from around the world. Forty-five artists participated in this year’s edition, including Alex Napping.

Alex Napping is a quartet based around the voice and songwriting of Alex Cohen. Fuzzy guitars and low-key grooves surround the cutting humor and wistful earnestness of Cohen’s voice, and she has us eating from her hands.

The best thing about this year’s SXSW was getting to meet and see so many great bands. We finally got to play a show with so many of our fellow Father/Daughter bands and it was very special and an all around good time to get to hang with them. We also got a chance to spend time with a lot of artists that we respect & love but only vaguely know through the internet, mutual friends, etc. Getting to make wonderful personal connections with them IRL for the first time was super special. It was a refreshing and inspiring experience, especially coming from a festival that can often feel bloated and overly corporate.
