Since 2015, we have asked independent artists to share their favorite memories from their time at SXSW. In just a couple of years, this project has become one of our most popular features thanks to the growing interests of bands and singers from around the world. Forty-five artists participated in this year’s edition, including Saro.
Best known for his electro-soul vibe, California-based Saro is a newcomer on the scene but already making himself heard above the crowd.
2017 marks my first time performing at SXSW and my first time visiting Austin. Some highlights include…
- Having pre-show, team feasts like the one at Moonshine Grill. The chicken and waffles still have my mouth watering.
- Getting to hang at the Apple Music house to hear Khalid and being gifted a pair of Beats By Dre wireless headphones. I love free shit!
- Performing outdoors for my first time at the TOMS Shoes showcase while the sun was setting. I couldn’t help but to ignore the audience and serenade the trees overhead. There was a bottomless open bar so everyone in the crowd was too tipsy to notice anyway.
Overall it was a beautifully blurred barrage of pedicabs, greasy food and fantastic music. I mean where else in the world are you able to drunkenly stumble 50 feet in any direction to hear an entirely different genre of live music?
