Desperate Journalist Headline at Scala, London (photo essay)

London was the place to be on Thursday night as Desperate Journalist headlined at a busy Scala. The night started with a selection from the London band’s new album, Grow Up, such as the brilliantly Gothic “Hollow” and latest single “Be Kind”.

Vocalist Jo Bevan

Singer Jo Bevan spend the night tangling herself up in her microphone lead, and you could see that she feels the emotion in her lyrics when she’s singing.

With a stage decked in fairy lights it set the night up for an intimate feel.

The night finished up with a three song encore, ending with an older song in “Organ”.

I really enjoyed listening to Desperate Journalist, and couldn’t help but hear a bit of a Cranberries twang in their songs.
The band are now on a short tour in Germany with four gigs booked up.

Packed crowd at Scala

Desperate Journalist’s album Grow up, which we recently reviewed, is available on iTunes and Fierce Panda. It is also out on LP at Bandcamp.
