Quickly, name the people who you can count on as admiring you. Partners, children, parents, siblings, best friends, and pets don’t count. Now think back to when you were 17 (if you’re this age or younger think about the present), who were your admirers? They probably didn’t include Richard Hawley and Simone Felice of The Felice Brothers. But for Aberdeen, Scotland native Katie Buchan, these are just two of a growing list of artists who have ecstatically exalted her talents as Best Girl Athlete.

In 2015, Buchan released her debut album, Carve Every Word, which turned heads across the UK, including Hawley and Felice. The young artist is now about to add to her growing list of devotees, as today she is unveiling a new single, “In Your Head”, which we have the great honor to premiere.

“In Your Head” is a stunning piece of cinematic drama that is akin to the great plays that occupy Broadway in New York City and London’s West End. The song’s intro immediately reins the listener in with fluttering strings and a Latin-influenced guitar. The plot then revs up, as the music turns into a boisterous, soulful, pop number to accompany Buchan’s intensifying vocal. When the horns kick in and the bass becomes amplified, the song explodes and pure delirium unfolds. Although Buchan chants, “I don’t want to be in your head”, her voice and this seismic affair will be stuck in your mind for hours if not days. When it’s all said and done, you, too, will join the likes of Hawley and Felice as fans of Scotland’s next great musical export.

“In Your Head” is available as a free download. Just click the SoundCloud audio below or click here. Then choose “More” and “Download”.

Buchan’s new album, Best Girl Athlete, arrives October 2nd, 2017 via Fitlike Records. Look for new music, including the LP’s first single, to be released in the weeks ahead.
