Usually, Autumn would feature the leaves changing color and a brisk evening breeze, but this past weekend brought record-breaking temperatures for the annual installation of Beau’s Oktoberfest. A rich celebration of craft beer and Bavarian traditions at the Vankleek Hill Fairgrounds, the 9th installment was held September 22nd and 23rd.
Beau’s Oktoberfest is a really festive event. Besides the copious offerings of brewed beverages and tasty cuisine produced by local restaurants, the festival also featured family-friendly activities, midway games, educational classes at the School of Bock, and keg tossing competitions. And of course there was music.
Two stages hosted a myriad of talent. The two-day festival was headlined by Stars and Rheostatics. TUNS, John K Samson, Partner, Julie & The Wrong Guys, The Planet Smashers, and many others lent support to the evenings. Then there was Walter Ostanek and his accordion, who supplied the traditional German music soundtrack during the weekend. A more intimate yet lively area on the grounds was the Black Forest stage featuring Hellbros!, who together with the Vans skateboarding halfpipe, helped celebrate the music and counterculture that Beau’s Oktoberfest is known for. The festival also has a very giving side, raising funds for its local charitable partners.
