Saints of Valory have been writing and recording addictive indie-pop tunes for almost a decade since forming in 2008. Each member originally met each other in Brazil even though they were all from different locales. Since 2010, the band has called Austin, Texas home. After relocating and self-releasing their own EPs in 2010-2012, they caught the attention of many fans and record labels alike. The band signed to Atlantic Records and released two EPs under the label. Since parting ways with Atlantic, Saints of Valory are now fully independent and are back in a big way.
Today, we are pleased to premiere their newest single, “Red Smoke”, which is below. The song is sultry and enigmatic as it chronicles an electric relationship that is risky yet exciting. The chorus is one you could put on repeat over and over again. As usual, strong vocals by Gavin Jasper bring the lyrics to life while the instrumentation makes “Red Smoke” definitely radio-ready.
Jasper shares a bit about the motivation behind the new track:
“I wanted the lyrics to be raw, as it’s about lust, love and midnight escapades. It was equally as important that the music helped paint the portrait of what an uninhibited teenage fantasy would sound like. “I’ve always been intrigued by what life would be like if I had lived my young teenage years in a different country or culture.
“My dad travels for a living, so he’s constantly sending me photos of crazy locations around the world. I remember him sending me pictures of Amsterdam and the red light district there right around the time I was writing this song. So that definitely influenced the fantasy of how different life would be like growing up there.”
“Red Smoke” is the third new song released by the band so far this year (“Set It On Fire”, “Painkiller”), and there is more to come. All of this will then lead to their new album, which we can expect sometime in 2018. If you are a hardcore SOV fan, you will notice a refined sound in their newest releases. They have begun to utilize a bit more keys and synth while maintaining their talent for creating killer harmonies and that massive arena ready sound. So far the evolution of their sound is impressive and will be looking forward to more in the coming months.
The trio will also be hitting the road again soon to support the new tracks. They are definitely a band to catch live if you can as their set is always amazingly energetic.
