Since 2015, we have asked independent artists to share their favorite memories from their time at SXSW. In just three years, this project has become one of our most popular features thanks to the growing interests of bands and singers from around the world. These memories are from Whitney Fenimore.

If you recognize Ms. Fenimore’s name, then you must know she was a contestant on season 13 of ‘The Voice’. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native’s story is a terrific one. While she has been singing for most of her life, she started to get panic attacks while performing. While she didn’t win ‘The Voice’, her participation was rewarding on a different level – she proved to herself that she can perform and perform well in front of millions of people SXSW similarly was another step to her inevitable stardom on the folk-pop and country-pop scenes.

Number one thing I love about Austin (besides good music) is THE FOOD. My first stop was Home Slice Pizza. It’s a must! It’s on SoCo (South Congress), which has so many great shops and bars as well.

After that I stopped across the street to a little market place to hear some incredible music. I found a new favorite band playing called Cut Worms. Weird name. Great band. Kinda Beatles-eque with a hint of Bob Dylan. I was pleasantly surprised. You honestly never know what you’re gonna get out there at SXSW.

After that, I had a few of my own gigs to attend to and had an amazing time playing at Little Woodrow’s and Red Shed Tavern. Met some awesome people and enjoyed the Austin scene very much. Look forward to coming back to Austin!
