2014 Ottawa Bluesfest – An Interview with Blues Musician Peter D. Harper

by

Peter D. Harper is an Australian-American singer-songwriter who specializes in blues and roots music. Actually, Peter was born in England before moving to Australia as a young child and now he calls Detroit home. Together with his band Midwest Kind, Harper makes foot-stomping, hand-clapping music. Harper, by the way, doesn’t just sing, but he’s an accomplished didgeridoo and harmonica player. He also has special ties to Canada, as he recorded Live at the Blues Museum at Canada’s only blues museum, which is in Windsor, Ontario.

In our 15-minute conversation, we touched on Peter’s upbringing and why he moved to Detroit. He also shared stories about being on the road, played a bit of the didgeridoo for us, and even did a little dance with me. Oh, he also let me try to play the didgeridoo. You’ll have to watch the video to see the results for yourself.
