Grasscut is a duo that is creating mesmerizing and captivating compositions. The duo is comprised of Andrew Phillips and Marcus O’Dair. “Fallswater” is the one of the tracks from their most recent release Everyone Was A Bird that came out last month. For the new album, each track will have an accompanying video/film that will also be played at each live show.
Andrew Phillips writes, sings, produces and contributes guitar, piano, bass, synths and programming for the album. But Everyone Was A Bird is also the band’s most live collection to date, featuring piano and double bass from Grasscut’s Marcus O’Dair, drums from Aram Zarikian (Andreya Triana/ Kathryn De Boer) and violin and viola from Emma Smith and Vince Sipprell (Elysian Quartet/Jon Hopkins/James Yorkston/Hot Chip/Micachu/Imogen Heap). Guests, meanwhile, include vocalists Elisabeth Nygård (LOOP Collective), Adrian Crowley (Chemikal Underground) and Seamus Fogarty (Fence/Lost Map), and renowned ECM reed player John Surman.
Their sound is hard to compare really to anyone else as they are creating their own blend of classical and traditional elements including soothing piano and strings, but mixed and added in with synth and bass which makes the collective sound of Grasscut unique.
Fallswater is just one of the 8 tracks on the new album that sends you to another place and provides a soothing yet ethereal feeling with the numerous elements utilized throughout. If you admire and enjoy the beauty in traditional music or the basis of a classical sound yet with an alternative spin, Grasscut is worth checking out.
We are also including another track off the new album titled “Curlews”. You can purchase the digital album over at Lo Recordings.
