The Van Allen Belt are an experimental pop band from the Steel City of the USA – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. For the past few years, they’ve created music that spans the innovative approaches of Dirty Projectors to the quirkiness of Field Music to the stuttering dashes of brilliance heard on tUnE-yArDs.
One of their best songs is “One On Board”. The song flashes with bubble gum bursts and kaleidoscope explosions while frontwoman Tamar Kamin uses her voice to not only communicate the lyrics but it also acts as another instrument. It’s unlike anything you’ve likely heard this year, and it’s a refreshing and brilliant song.
“One On Board” is from The Van Allen Belt’s second album, Heaven on a Branch. The record was released nearly a year ago, but it’s getting a second life this summer. The entire album can be heard on SoundCloud and purchased on Bandcamp. It’s, not surprisingly, an eclectic mix that can best described as aura-pop. Take a listen and you’ll understand.
The Van Allen Belt are B.K. Ferris, Tamar Kamin, Tom Altes, and Scott Taylor.
The Van Allen Belt’s “One On Board” can also be found on the June 19th Edition of the Weekend Showcase, a weekly playlist featuring new music from around the world.
