“You guys have one hell of a setlist worked out. Wish I was watching that show!”. The crowd called throughout for their favourites last Tuesday, but American country singer Tyler Childers knew exactly what he was going to perform before he packed his guitar up and strolled off into the night. Despite being only 26, the man from Kentucky comes across as a man who’s been around forever. He not only entertains the crowds with stories in his songs, but he tells fantastic tales of his life in the States. It seems like a short se,t as he showcases a selection from his breakthrough album, Purgatory, with the treat of a few older songs added in.
The whooping and cheers from the selection of Americans in the audience of the beautiful London venue makes you feel like you’re in sat in an American bar. Half of the audience could only hear Tyler as he sat down on a chair on the low stage for his set standing up just to say hello to those who couldn’t see him at the start. The American Country scene is quickly increasing in popularity in Britain and with two sellout UK shows this tour I’m sure it won’t be long before we see Tyler heading back over.
Tyler’s critically-acclaimed album, Purgatory, is available on iTunes and Spotify. His tour continues back in the US, and it appears dates are quickly selling out. Tickets can be found on his website.
Ferris & Sylvester
Not only was this a great introduction to the talented London based duo, it was a geography lesson. We learnted about how Iceland smells of eggs and all about hot springs.
Ferris & Sylvester’s folk/country style was a heartwarming opening to the night and will have earned them a few more followers. With some awesome guitar work to go with the beautiful harmonies, they are certainly a group to keep an eye out for. They’ve recently been supporting some guy called George Ezra, so it’s clear that they’re already picking up interest from the right people!
Their latest EP, Made in Streatham, was released last week and details on where to get hold of a copy can be found here. They’ve got a handful of gigs lined up. Check them out in some more intimate surroundings while you can.
