“Frayed” is the new single from Waterstrider. This chilling track has the laid back vibe of Rhye’s lush music and a touch of funk-pop that is reminiscent of Winnipeg’s Royal Canoe. The single is a great representation of the quintet from Oakland, California, who take multiple genres – pop, rock, R&B, funk, electronic – and meld them into a single song, often creating something startling brilliant.

“Frayed” will be part of a special compilation of songs that producer Jeff Saltzman (The Killers, Green Day) will release on June 23 on his label, OIM Records. We anticipate that the exciting project will include some up-and-coming acts, such as Youngblood and possibly even Montreal’s Milk & Bone.

Waterstrider are Nate Salman (vocals/guitar), Brijean Murphy (congas/percussion), Scott Brown (bass/synth), Drew Brown (guitar/synth), and Walker Johnson (drums). Last month, they released a terrific LP, Nowhere Now, which you can get on iTunes. A couple of tracks from the album are below. They’ll also be heading a tour with another great band Trails & Ways.

If you like “Frayed”, check out the May 8th Edition of the Weekend Showcase, which includes this track along with 20 other new songs from artists you ought to know.
