HibouTwo years ago, Peter Michel – who goes by the moniker Hibou – released an EP, Dunes, and several singles, including the split 7″ “Glow / Hollow”. With a lo-fi, shoegaze approach a la Avi Buffalo, the then 18-year old became an underground favorite. Since then, he’s signed with super indie label Barsuk, who is working with Michel on his debut album.

The first single from the record is “Dissolve”, a summery, dreamy indie tune. The song retains the shoegaze-y sound of Hibou’s past efforts, but it has a quicker tempo. The sound quality is also much clearer for obvious reasons with the song recorded in a studio as oppose to in Michel’s bedroom.

We don’t have any details at this time on when the album will drop. In the meantime, enjoy below “Valium” from Hibou’s debut EP or hear it in its entirety on SoundCloud.

Alternatively, take a listen to the June 5th Edition of The Weekend Showcase, which includes Hibou’s “Dissolve” and 19 other songs from around the world.
